I was in High School when this episode originally aired. Everybody wore Levis then. I noticed one of the bad guys had a long sleeve white Levis shirt on. I had one just like it !

JOE IS THE FUGITIVE, PART II.
tcchelsey6 June 2024
Conclusion.

Back in the day, all of us kids thought this show would go on forever, and took it for granted, much like GUNSMOKE that ran for twenty years. Sunday nights would never be the same. Being a final season episode, and particularly, one of the very last episodes of the series, the story reminds you of the early years, kind of closing the circle. True, there's the Catalina effect, for which I took off a star, however, you can't turn down a solid chase. Also a salute to Mike Connors, still rolling with the punches

Yes, writer Alfred Hayes, known for international films, wrote this second part episode much in the style of THE FUGITIVE, and is Joe ever a wanted man.

Mannix is neatly framed for the assassination of a South American country president and is marked for death. I do agree with the last reviewer, he has ample time to make a getaway, which plays into the MISSION IMPOSSIBLE theory and timetable of events at hand. Worth mentioning once again, the story may have been an outline for a M. I. episode. Sit back and enjoy the wild ride.

A prime example of how a top director can make things roll. Credit Michael O'Herlihy, born in Dublin, who directed seven episodes for the series, many more for HAWAII FIVE O, not to forget THE FALL GUY and the A TEAM. Adventure on steroids.

The cast definitely puts this one over the top, foremost Robert Loggia in an excellent dramatic role. It's actually a contest between he and Mike Connors for acting awards. Pretty Andrea Marcovicci plays Adriana, lending excellent support, also popular actor Richard Evans as Victor. Honorable mention to Alexander Scourby as the count, whose deep voice was perhaps better known than his face.

The ending, and it's a long time to get there, is worth the wait, just like the old days. Note the remastered color, especially the outdoor scenes, is especially good.

SEASON 8 EPISODE 21 CBS/Paramount dvd box set. 6 dvds. Released 2012, similar classic artwork design to CANNON Season 5 final season collectors edition.

Joe is still south
steelblue5517 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A little surprised at the relatively high rating on this two part show. There are some good parts, but they are kind of strung together for no purpose - when you step back it doesn't work so well.

The beginning of this has a nice set up where Joe is framed for an assassination and goes on the run. His old restaurant friend helps him and there is an elaborate plan to hide and help him escape. But after an elaborate transfer and set up to lay low, he takes off and goes straight to the wife of the guy he is looking for.... so why even waste all the time being ferried in secret and the new outfit? Then Joe deduces where a key person may be and the police decide to go along with it, even though before they caught him they didn't believe him and were talking a next morning execution! The way Joe convinces them who is the real assassin is pretty thin also.... then when he runs off the police just stand around leaving Joe the only one chasing him... huh? But the chase scene and scenery - on foot- was well done and leads to an exciting finish... until... well, the bad guy's wife just stands there when she could save him. It's long and drawn out and makes no sense at all, as she earlier said she would back him no matter what.

So... you have some good scenes but some of them don't really fit the story... Going back to part 1 - Joe could have finished what the client wanted and didn't. Now that the full story is in, the wife also could have taken the reward and bye Joe, he knew nothing at that point to interfere with their plot.... but she didn't do that either. In the credits this one was based on a book, so maybe there was just too much to fit in 2 hours... it just had too many key things that didn't really make sense.

Catalina Island....South America!
planktonrules24 September 2018
This is the second part of a two part episode. What shocked me was the recap at the beginning of part two...it was very, very long. So long you really wonder why they didn't just make a single episode! It also shocked me that the shows were supposed to be set in some fictional South American nation....but it's clearly Catalina Island, California.

The show EVENTUALLY picks up at where it left off at the end of part one...with Mannix unconscious in a theater. He'd been knocked out by some of the conspirators who obviously plan something bad for when their president visits in a few days. They plan on killing him but, naturally, allow him ample opportunity to escape since he is the leading man! However, although he does escape, folks now think he's an assassin! Despite being an interesting plot idea...it's not handled all that well and the tension that SHOULD have been there was missing.

This is a very weak episode...and stretching it out to two episodes was a mistake in hindsight. Most of the problem was that there was enough material for one mediocre episode....and instead they made two weak ones. Not particularly enjoyable nor that exciting.

I didn't have to watch Part 1

I ended up just watching Part 2 only. It did a recap of part 1 for the first 10 minutes of the episode. I love the Mannix series but did not really care for this episode. I can tell that this series has jumped the shark
