- Joe Mannix receives an urgent letter from a woman named Lynn Sargent asking him to fly to Arizona. She meets him at the airport and hands him a check for $1,000 and a small sealed package, telling him the money is his fee to take the package to the Los Angeles Police Department. Just as she does so, two men try to take the package, but Mannix manages to retain it after a scuffle. But the mystery deepens when the package turns out to contain nothing but blank sheets of paper -- and the police chief in the town tells Mannix that Lynn Sargent died a month earlier in a hit-and-run accident.—aldanoli
- Mannix is asked by a woman calling herself Lynn Sargent to deliver a package the Los Angeles police. The woman flees after seeing some men who attack Mannix to seize the package. The men leave the scene and Mannix ends up at the local police headquarters with the package, which turns out to be a bundle of blank sheets. Mannix also learns from the police chief (Belden) that Lynn Sargent died in a hit-and-run incident some time ago and the chief tells Mannix he has got a lot of explaining to do. The woman claiming to be Lynn Sargent is in fact her sister Janet Kirby who takes Mannix to Lynn's home in an isolated conutry area. Janet tells Mannix that she believes that Lynn's husband Tony, a financier for the Mob, is responsible for Lynn's death and that the package was a ruse by Janet to try to get Tony to incriminate himself. While they are at the home, gunmen attack and Mannix and Janet attempt to escape, but are thwarted by Belden who also works for the Mob.
