The Trial Continues
Hitchcoc3 March 2017
Mary again has to face prosecution for not revealing her sources in a case involving corruption in City Hall. She is very worried, so Lou gets her an attorney. It is pretty successful guy who played poker with Lou. He seems very competent. Unfortunately, he falls head over heels for Mary. When Lou tells him she doesn't love him, he goes on a bender. This is a comedy, but he shows up plastered in court. This could have tragic consequences for her. One of the best scenes is when the prosecution calls Ted to the stand to try to get him to say that Mary isn't really a news person, since his produces the news. You have to see this to know what I'm talking about.

"I don't know"

Mary again faces prosecution for 'not revealing sources' from episode 'Will Mary Richards Go to Jail?'

Lou gets her a lawyer, his poker buddy Barry Munroe (John McMartin). Unfortunately Barry falls for Mary and decides it will be good timing to propose marriage the night before the trial. Meanwhile Ted tries to avoid being subpoenaed, but is forced to testify.

If you've seen McMartin's attempts at romance in film Sweet Charity you'll guess he'll badly fumble things here too. McMartin is good and the episode a fun romp.

Worst episode of the series

Lou gets a poker playing buddy of his to be Mary's lawyer to represent her in the contempt of court trial. It's an idiotic episode. The lawyer is depicted as a lovestruck buffoon, waving his fee in favor of dinner with Mary. Thoroughly unprofessional. What a farce.
