Rick Jason: Jack Garrison

Quotes

  • Michael Anthony : [Anthony rushes up to a military airplane about to depart. He catches up to Lt. Garrison about halfway up the mobile stairway to the plane's entrance]  Lt. Garrison!

    Jack Garrison : Yes?

Michael Anthony : May I speak to you a moment, please, in private?

Jack Garrison : Private? But we're taking off right now.

Michael Anthony : [Insistent]  I'll be brief, Lieutenant. My name is Michael Anthony.

Jack Garrison : [Over the roar of the plane's engine]  What?

Michael Anthony : My name is Michael Anthony. I have a gift for you. A check

[Anthony looks around to ensure privacy]

Michael Anthony : for a million dollars.

[Anthony hands the check to Garrison]

Jack Garrison : [Reading the check]  Now, now wait a minute, sir. This is a check for a million dollars. But who...?

Michael Anthony : I can only tell you that it's a gift from an anonymous benefactor. But it is yours, to use in any way you wish, providing you agree to a certain condition.

    [Producing a document]

Michael Anthony : You must sign this agreement.

    Jack Garrison : Sign this?

Michael Anthony : Yes. As you see, you merely pledge never to reveal to anyone, except your wife, in the event you marry, the amount of this gift or how you received it. If you do, you forfeit whatever is left of it.

Jack Garrison : You mean this is on the level? Thi is mine?

    [Anthony nods, smiling]

Jack Garrison : Boy, what I can do with a million bucks!

[Garrison signs the pledge and returns it to Anthony]

Jack Garrison : why, now I can do anything I...

    [pauses]

Jack Garrison : You know what I can do with this? Nothing!

Michael Anthony : I beg your pardon?

Jack Garrison : What a time to get a million bucks. Imagine sitting down there at the South Pole with a million dollars. Talk about frozen assets!

Sergeant : [Approaching Garrison]  Lieutenant, everybody's on. We're taking off!

Jack Garrison : Just a minute, Sergeant.

    [to Anthony, shaking hands]

Jack Garrison : Thank you, sir.

Michael Anthony : Good luck, Lieutenant.

Jack Garrison : It sure is! But couldn't we have gotten together sometime earlier?

    Sergeant : Lieutenant!

Jack Garrison : [to Anthony]  Later?

    Sergeant : Lieutenant!

    Jack Garrison : Okay, okay.

[Garrison and the sergeant ascend the stairway. Anthony has returned to the ground and waves]
