Nurse Betty?

Another outstanding Season 5 episode. It's odd that this show was cranking out so many great episodes this late in the run and CHARLIE'S ANGELS fifth and final season was beyond scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I only know Martha Scott from DALLAS so I didn't recognize her at first and just thought she looked like a mean Betty White. She is tasked with playing a very complex character, so you're not sure whether to pity her or hate her.

Howard Duff is also great as the tortured husband who must make a painful decision regarding his terminally ill wife. That the show would even tackle the subject of euthanasia -- in such a sensitive way without being schmalzy -- is accomplishment enough.

As someone who's experienced this situation first-hand, special mention must go to Doreen Lang as the sickly wife who does an incredible job with a thankless role. She's basically asked to portray agony and beg for death over and over and her performance really packs a wallop. She must have been good at this sort of thing because her IMDB credits also list her as "Hysterical Mother in Diner" in Hitchcock's THE BIRDS. I'll have to look for her next time I watch it.

Actually, there is not a bad actor in the bunch here. The only question I have is: would nurses back in 1973 be allowed to leave pharmacy keys unattended overnight in an open locker?
