Le(a)p - rechaun of faith?
FlorianLaur20 August 2023
A woman hires Maddie and Dave to "protect her pot of gold" as she identifies as a leprechaun!

This of course has Dave and Maddie at opposing opinions once again with Dave basically saying people can see themselves as whatever they want (as long as they pay) and Maddie suggesting the lady is a case for the nuthouse.

Dave decides to take the case against Maddie's wish and guards the client who also tells him that she killed a guy and is being followed. David doesn't believe her, but then he does get knocked out. Is the lady telling the truth and she's really a leprechaun?

This episode is one that apparently many people didn't like. I can see why, although I wouldn't say it's "the worst" for me. It does have a nice atmosphere with the rain, the city at night, them being at Maddie's house...

I also didn't mind the accent. Maybe because English is not my native language, I usually don't care too much and just take it for granted that American shows or movies NEVER do good accents. I did like the actress who plays the client though, she seems very positive and quirky and it's easy to see why Dave and even Maddie want to help her.

Overall, the episode might be a little too fantastic to be very good, but it's not the worst for me. I give it a (weaker) 7/10.

Possibly the worst Irish accent in TV/film history

Warning: Spoilers
While there is no such thing as a bad Moonlighting episode (until the pregnancy of course), this episode has a serious problem.

It features an Irish character, but it seems no one involved in the production has ever heard an Irish person speak. The actress at times sounds like a Jamaican, like Dick Van Dyke's chimney sweep, a member of Abba and even Scarlett O'Hara, sometimes in different parts of the same sentence. It has to be heard to be believed.

All the other ingredients of a good episode are in place, but this one character and her extraordinary nomadic accent dominate the proceedings, making it almost impossible to stay in the story. Every time she speaks, you remember you're watching a TV show made by all- too-fallible human beings.

Mild spoiler: the storyline involves a woman who believes she is a leprechaun. She sings songs that go "A-diddly-di-a-doodle-dee-a-diddly-doodle-di." And the incidental music is "Irish", in the way that an Irish-themed pub or the Riverdance phenomenon is Irish. For some reason they forget to mention the potato famine, but it's as if they wanted to irritate anyone Irish who might be watching. Perhaps this explains why they couldn't get an actual Irish actress.

And yet I have to give it 9 stars - it's Moonlighting!

Worst accent ever

Our favourite detectives get caught up with an Irish woman who happens to be looking for a fortune in gold and who hires Blue Moon to stop the bad guys from getting it. The main guest star plays this Irish character with the most excruciating accent ever put on film. Not even close to authentic. It ruins the episode and makes it unwatchable. Whoever signed off on this as a passable Irish accent has never heard an Irish person speak. The episode also lacks a decent plot and witty dialogue. Fortunately there are many great episodes of Moonlighting to watch so skip this one. You're not missing anything.

This Episode Not Magically Delicious

As others have said, the actress playing Kathleen, uses an embarrassingly atrocious Irish accent. Especially when saying the word "daytime" It slides into an antebellum south flavor. The casting person should have been ashamed as it takes away from an already razor thin believable episode. This actress obviously knew a producer or someone owed her money out a favor. Truly dreadful!!

I don't remember this episode from the original run, and I was happier when that was the case. The witty banter between David & Maddie is almost non existent. The typical Moonlighting mad cap chase at the end is farcical at best. Cybil looks embarrassed to be there, and she should have been...
