The show was only moderately successful during its first season. NBC agreed to renew it on the condition that costs be held to the 1967 level; freezing the talents' salaries. Producer Desi Arnaz obtained agreements from the cast - except Roger C. Carmel , who felt Arnaz - as creator, writer, director, actor was receiving 4 salaries. Arnaz pleaded with him, but he wouldn't budge, and was released. Carmel was replaced (by Richard Deacon), and the show sank in the ratings and was canceled
This was the first episode in which Richard Deacon world play the same character - Kaye's husband - without any acknowledgment (esp. given the 2 actors were physically opposites).
