New Year's Eve is definitely for amateurs.

Warning: Spoilers
A new decade is rolling in and Murphy doesn't want to celebrate New Year's because of her issue with alcohol but agrees to go to Corky's party where no cork is popped because of Corky's decision to keep it dry simply because of Murphy which she makes blatantly clear to everybody there. It's a dull party where everybody but the news team leaves before midnight (obviously heading across the street to one more raucous party), and Murphy heads home only to find some champagne that Eldon had left behind. Temptations become very tough to resist, and after a year and a half of rooting for Murphy to stay sober, the audience really feels an investment in her doing it now. We get to meet Janet Carroll as Jim's wife Doris, basically the female version of him, and Jane leaves returns as Audrey. Corky's date is an overzealous young doctor who is basically pandering for new business rather than getting to know the other guests. For those who hate New Year's and consider it a forced holiday, they will see many truths in this, and for those struggling to say sober on New Year's, this might just be a good influence. Once again, the writers take a great story and turn it into something classic and profound, and of course with the type of humor that only the FYI team could find in this situation.
