The remark "Goodnight, Mike Nelson of Sea Hunt fame" is an allusion to both Lloyd Bridges (starring in Rocketship X-M) who played a character named Mike Nelson on the series Sea Hunt, and to Mike Nelson, Mystery Science Theater 3000's head writer.

Josh Weinstein, who played Dr. Larry Erdhardt left the show over creative differences. This is the first episode since his departure, so the show is written to fit his absence with the introduction of Frank Conniff, as Tv's Frank, as his replacement and with Tom Servo being given a new voice.
