Not missing, just a really cheap ring

Warning: Spoilers
Miss Davis' ring is missing. It was given to her by a globe-trotting friend of hers, Safari O'Toole (Burt Mustin). It's not missing, Connie took it to Mr. Boynton to see if he could tighten it up. But now it has vanished from Mr. Boynton's lab, and Mr. Boynton finds two dollars in his jacket pocket. Safari is returning to see Mrs. Davis for her birthday. During a meeting in the school cafeteria, Mr. Boynton accidentally outs Safari when his story falls apart as Safari can't out science a science teacher. Turns out Safari is not a big-time game hunter but a dog-catcher. He just visited the library to get the information he needed for the letters he was supposedly writing Mrs. Davis from all over the world. Turns out the ring isn't missing. Safari went into Mr. Boynton's lab and saw it there. Mr. Boynton had been trying to repair the ring and had left it in his lab. Safari recognized it as the one he had given Mrs. Davis, so he took it and left behind two dollars, the amount he had original paid for the ring. He thought he would give to Mrs. Davis for her birthday so she would have a set. A silly episode but one filled with the great word play the series was known for.
