Too Many Variables in the Whole Process
Hitchcoc13 June 2014
A young doctor has been doing research on cell regeneration. Such a breakthrough would allow people to get younger and would cure many cellular diseases. It starts with an effort to save his wife who is suffering from a horrible form of cancer. The process works at first and then immediately regresses. She dies and he withdraws, with his equipment, to a remote location in a small town. There he meets a woman, thirty years his senior, living in an abusive situation. They develop a friendship but that friendship leads to more abuse from her vicious, unhappy husband who blames the world and her for all his issues. One day he beats her so violently, she is near death. The young doctor needs to act. He treats her with the machine, adding a new element he has just discovered. The reason for my hesitancy is that there are so many scientific maneuverings that are terribly far fetched, even for science fiction. When it was over, my response was, "Oh, really?"

Barbara Rush and Have Presnell

Warning: Spoilers
Fun story.

Dr. Noah Phillips invents an age-reducing machine in an attempt to remove tumors and cancerous growths.

He receives support from an elderly neighbor, Barbara (aptly played by Barbara Rush), who is abused by her husband, Greg (Presnell).

She says Greg is nervous about being passed over for a promotion by a younger man, which is what happens anyway.

When Greg is passed over, he severely beats Barbara.

When Noah finds her, he decides the only thing to do is to use the years he has left to make Barbara younger, making himself elderly in the process.

Thing is, Barbara goes back in time with her memories too.

She thinks it is 1957, an interesting rejuvenation bit.

Greg overhears at the window and becomes enraged and is off to get a gun.

Now the conclusion I got was that the youth, Noah's youth that was now in Barbara, would end up transferred into Greg and Greg would be off to get that promotion somewhere, leaving the elderly Noah with the elderly Barbara, again being portrayed by Rush (when Barbara is young, she is portrayed by a different actress).

Well, that didn't happen.

Sci Fi channel would show six episodes of the Outer Limits. 'Balance of Nature' was the fifth one and was the most interesting one.

I usually like episodes of this show, such as past ones that starred Amanda Plummer or Melissa Gilbert.

This one was fun to see Barbara Rush and Have Presnell together.
