Bobby Sherman in first season finale
kevinolzak12 March 2014
"A Knight in Shining Armor" was the finale to the show's first season, a farewell to Jeremy Gelbwaks' drumming Chris Partridge, and a teaming of fading teen idol Bobby Sherman with rising star David Cassidy. Polite housebreaker Sherman reveals himself to be struggling songwriter Bobby Conway, whose plans to leave a demo for the Partridges are foiled by their unexpected arrival back home. While they like the sound, Bobby needs a lyricist to complete his tunes. Danny remembers receiving a shoebox full of poems, coupled by a note in purple crayon, asking for them to be put to music. Bobby learns that the author is Lionel Poindexter (Wes Stern), a true eccentric who reveals himself to be tone deaf but willing to collaborate. This Mar 19 broadcast inspired a brief spin off series, GETTING TOGETHER, which debuted Sept 18 1971, ending with its 14th episode Jan 8 1972 (supposedly inspired by the teaming of Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart). The featured song (Bobby Sherman as well as David Cassidy) is titled "Stephanie," composed by Richard Klein, John Henning, and David Price, certainly familiar to those who'd seen "Did You Hear the One About Danny Partridge?" with different lyrics accompanying the backing, this first version called "All of the Things," neither of which saw release (all three writers were veterans of THE MONKEES series).
