My biggest complaint about lawyer shows like "Perry Mason" and "Petrocelli"...all, or nearly all, of their clients are innocent!! No real life defense attorney really exists who only has innocent folks for clients and at least a reasonable number ARE guilty. So, I was thrilled to see "Mark of Cain" because in this one, Petrocelli's client IS guilty!
When the story begins, Richie Martin (John Saxon) arrives unexpectedly in Petrocelli's office. It turns out they are old friends from Boston and they plan on getting together the next day. Not surprisingly (since it IS "Petrocelli"), the get together never happens...and Richie is jailed for murder!! To make things worse, the mob wants Richie dead as well...and they kidnap the lawyer's lovely wife in order to force a showdown with Petrocelli and Martin.
This is a very unusual episode and not just another by the numbers episode...for that I really appreciate it and liked it. Well worth seeing.
