PISTOLS 'N' PETTICOATS is a rarely revived series from 1966-67 that quickly expired following the untimely death of its 51 year old star, Ann Sheridan. A comic Western depicting the adventures of the sharpshooting Hanks family in 1870 Wretched, Colorado, a total of 27 episodes produced, with Ruth McDevitt as Grandma, Douglas V. Fowley as Grandpa, Carole Wells as young Lucy Hanks, and Gary Vinson (McHALE'S NAVY) as the inept town sheriff. An early episode, "Bitter Blossom O'Brian" guest stars Jack Albertson (CHICO AND THE MAN) as Irishman Timothy O'Brian, whose daughter Bridget was kidnapped by Indians 10 years before, calling upon Chief Eagle Shadow (Lon Chaney) to ask if he knows where she can be found. The wise chief takes the opportunity to dump on the white father his most untamed squaw, Bitter Blossom (Julie Parrish), who disciplines his son Grey Hawk (Marc Cavell, Chaney's co-star in "Young Fury") with a kick in the shin (Eagle Shadow: "dance AFTER I tell you good news!"). Grey Hawk insists he is capable of training her, but his father has other ideas: "she is already best fighter in tribe!" O'Brian too is greeted by a kick in the shin, as the savvy Eagle Shadow quickly disappears from view. Chaney's recurring role was a humorous reprise of his Chingachgook from HAWKEYE AND THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS, his last opportunity to play comedy on the small screen, and back one final time at Universal, the studio where he'd achieved lasting fame as "The Wolf Man."
