The title of this episode refers to a new Los Angeles gang, the Malflores ('bad flowers'). What sets them apart from other gangs in the bario is that this one is all-female and they seem every bit as tough as the male gangs. Officers Webber and Cheruco (Clifton Davis and Gregory Sierra) both try a more sympathetic approach, as they figure busting heads and treating the young hoodlums like the enemy will only make the gangs grow faster. It also helps that both officers are from minorities...but even then, their successes are small and limited.

The show never said the Malflores were lesbians, though it sure seems like many are. This isn't a complaint or anything, but back in 1977 they just weren't ready to say something like this, so they heavily implied it and left it up to the viewer.

What I like about this episode is that it didn't have any pat answers or make the problem seem easy to overcome. Well made and worth seeing.
