A phenomenally superb First Episode
PoisonKeyblade5 December 2007
"So, are you coming or going? Or coming and then going? Or coming and staying?" ~Brian

While I may have never seen the UK version of Queer as Folk, this first episode of the US version showed incredible promise and loads of foreshadowing. This pilot was simply fantastic, outrageous, and brilliant. I loved every minute of the budding relationship between Justin and Brian, and the whole Michael and Brian relationship is a very interesting one at that. The sex scenes and the writing are simply out of this world, and as the episode comes to a close, you are only left wanting more. Hal Sparks was a perfect fit as the dorky, sensitive and lovable as Michael, but I don't think that actors come more perfectly gorgeous or amazing as Gale Harold, who plays Brian. His performance as the cynical yet lovable Brian is really something special. This premier really proves that this show has something special.

Nice Transition
PoisonKeyblade7 December 2007
"His eyes were closed, his mouth was open, in a sort of smile, like he was in another place, a beautiful place, and that place was me." ~Justin

I thought that episode 2 of Queer as Folk was a great transition into some of the deeper, more heart-wrenching moments of Queer as Folk, and it was heavy on the humor. I really enjoyed the introduction of the whole Michael/Tracy problem and how awkward things are at his job. Justin's pursuit of Brian just further proved how lovable of a character Brian really is. You start to notice some of the show's little quirks and it becomes all the better. My favorite scene, without a doubt, in the second episode was when Michael is lying in the bed with the magazine and has the flashback. I also loved all of the dialogue and interactions between Justin and Brian, and Brian's little speech was just a perfect portrayal of his character. Overall, a very powerful episode that better conveyed the tone of the show than the pilot.

Pilot (#1.1)

Warning: Spoilers
I have sort of mixed feelings about this title. I kind of felt like they are reinforcing some stereotypes about gay men only having sex, in the bathrooms, corners of the bars etc. and basically spend all their free time cruising. But this may be because they were mainly concentrating on Brian, otherwise they may have some great variety of personalities.

I also have mixed feelings about Brian. On on hand as a 29 year old who isn't crazy about getting old and doesn't believe in love I feel a sort of connection. Yet he also seems to be too much of a jerk. I dislike the whole meeting scene at work. It felt pretty cheesy and then he also basically raped a guy in a bathroom, so it is hard to like him.

I really did like Michael's story of how he went on a date with a girl to hide his sexuality. I found it very funny how he found some things funny and they were just staring at him. His date who had an artificial butt was very fun as well.

I have no opinion on Justin yet, but I feel like he will be pretty interesting. A young boy discovering sex life, having to come out and facing the world.

And it was great to hear some of the music from the club scenes. OMG, Darude Sandstorm! I didn't hear that in ages!
