Minnie Lou : Hardworking, god-faring men, I suppose, who tried to ease your pain the only way they know how.

Millie Wade : Blood money. What good is it? What can I buy with it?
Minnie Lou : It's not for you to point the avenging finger. Lest you point your finger towards the Heavens. That's where the lightning came from that caused the horses to bolt.

Millie Wade : What are you saying? What are you trying to do? Turn me against God?
Millie Wade : You've never even had a husband to lose.

Minnie Lou : No, I never had, that's right. But there was gonna be. We made plans for 5 years. Only the Comanches took a hand. When it was over, I buried what was left. My sister, Eli's mother, then I buried his father and his two older brothers.

Millie Wade : Minnie.

Minnie Lou : Buried all the hopes and dreams me and Frank had. And I took Eli to raise. But you're quite right, Millie, I never have had a husband to lose.
Millie Wade : Minnie Lou, I hope you understand.

Minnie Lou : That's the trouble, I do.

Millie Wade : I only want to see justice done.

Minnie Lou : You mean revenge.

Millie Wade : They murdered my husband. I want to see them pay for it. Is that so terrible?

Minnie Lou : It is when you use Eli to be your executioneer.
