The episode was originally scheduled to air on Nickelodeon on August 22, 1992, but Nickelodeon and MTV considered it too disturbing and was replaced by a rerun of the original unaired pilot "Big House Blues" for season 2 instead. It also led Nickelodeon to fire John Kricfalusi and Spumco from The Ren & Stimpy Show (1991). It remained unaired until 2003, when Spike TV made it this show's unofficial pilot, with a TV-MA rating.
The newspaper article that Stimpy reads during toilet training is from the March 31, 1992 edition of the Los Angeles Times.
George Liquor's line to Ren, "You like it soft. You like it easy. You don't get any discipline." is based on a real-life exchange between John Kricfalusi and color stylist Teale Wang. When she said she was going back to work on The Simpsons (1989), John told her, "Oh, I get it. You like it safe. You don't like to take chances. I understand."
This episode is what got Nickelodeon to fire John Kricfalusi and Spumco from production of The Ren & Stimpy Show (1991) and was never aired on Nickelodeon, TeenNick, Nicktoons or even MTV.
This episode is also banned on Paramount+. The series is available to watch there but this episode is not, it was banned due to the episode featuring brutal violence, cigar references, and scatological jokes.
