In this episode we are introduced to family violence as a mother with two children remarries a man that turns out to be a cad to everyone. Peter Whitney plays Andrew Bachtel that has an anger streak and also an alcohol problem. Even though we do not see the violence on the screen, it is clear that the step-father beats the two children, Heller and David Chase, along with the meek wife, Muriel.
Now it seems that the two young children have had enough of Andrew's beatings. The kids steal a gun with a purpose of stopping the beatings since their mother appears unable to confront the large frame step-father. And it is not long until the step-father comes home drinking and starts looking for the kids. A confrontation is inevitable.
There is much more to the story that needs to be seen by the viewer but the writer leaves no doubt that the families situation is dire. Peter Whitney, even though playing the rough in this story, does a nice job of making the viewer have disdain for his character at every turn. An uncomfortable story that is still appealing to watch.
