This is the first episode where Rockford does not mention his rate- "200.00 a day, plus expenses."
Both Jackie Cooper (Captain Highland) and Lane Smith (Willett) later played the "Superman" character Perry White, the editor of the Daily Planet: Cooper in Superman (1978), Superman II (1980), Superman III (1983) and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987) and Smith in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993).
Sergeant Becker drives a Ford Gran Torino in this episode, which would later become iconic as the car with a white stripe which Starsky had in Starsky and Hutch (1975).
Jack's At The Beach, the restaurant featured in this episode, looked like the last outpost of civilization in 1974, perched serenely where Pacific Ocean Park pier crumbles into the sea. And indeed it was the last survivor of the POP heyday, when the music of Tommy Dorsey Orchestra floated on summer breezes and the pier was full of strolling people. At the time of filming, Jack's is all that is left a POP and it's colorful history. The entire complex, including the Lick Pier and the restaurant on the adjoining parking pier was scheduled for demolition.
Jackie Cooper - who guest stars in this episode - directed both the previous episode; 'Counter Gambit', as well as the following episode; 'Say Goodbye To Jennifer.'
