"I promise you immunity" take 'em home This is the episode of "The Rookies" (not counting the pilot) and it marks a milestone--the first show in the series that did not suck. Now I am not saying it's great, but after to horrible job of sucking in the previous two episodes, it's nice to see one that didn't make me cringe. Now before you think I am overreacting, see these other episodes. They're bad...REALLY bad.

"The Informant" begins with a dumb criminal panicking and leading the police on a chase. He's eventually caught and they find a stolen mink stole in his car. However, instead of prosecuting, the police are able to get him to inform on his gang. Now this particular scene is INSANE, as one of the rookies (evidently, the DUMB one) offers the guy immunity from prosecution. No cop has that authority--it's up to the prosecutors. Regardless, the case ends up being thrown up out of court on a technicality--and now the informant's 'friends' are likely to kill him. So what do the cops do--exactly what ANY cop would do--take the guy home to live with them!!! And, later, when the bad guys commit an armed robbery, guess who holds one of the guys at gunpoint while one of the cops chases the other robber--yep, they rely on the informant to do that! Does any of this make sense? Nope...but this is STILL almost infinitely better than the previous episodes. Now, after watching the first three shows in the series, I am done. Despite watching this show as a kid, it did really suck...hard.
