Another bit of British slang, "plonk" (which Rumpole requests after he was unsuccessful in sharing his concern with George Frobisher) is a British and Australian term for cheap wine, derived from the French word "blanc" (white). It stood in contrast to the expensive bottle of wine that Frobisher bought.
