- Two-timing Fred's in the soup when he accidentally double books his dining room table by inviting both his fiancée Donna and the attractive saleswoman Carol over for supper on the same evening.
- Fred takes a liking to Carol, a door-to-door saleswoman. She explains that she is from St. Louis, MO, just like Fred. She's a widow who recently moved to Los Angeles to live with her sister. Fred flirts with her all morning, and they lose track of time. Lamont comes home for lunch and meets Carol who hurries on her way. Before she goes, Fred invites her to dinner that evening. Lamont reminds him that he invited his fiancee, Donna, to dinner that night, too. Fred calls Donna and leaves a message that he can't make their date that evening. Thinking that all is taken care of, Fred goes upstairs to prepare for the evening.
Donna calls, and Lamont starts to call his father downstairs, but changes his mind. Lamont doesn't like Donna, plus, he wants to teach hs dad a lesson about two-timing women. Lamont tells Donna that his father meant to say that he couldn't cook dinner, and wondered if Donna would cook something and bring it over that evening.
That evening, Lamont tells Fred that he wants to stay for dinner. Fred doesn't want him hanging around, but Lamont insists on staying. There's a knock on the door, and Fred is shocked when Donna walks in. Lamont plays innocent. Donna questions why there is already food cooking in the oven. When she goes back to the kitchen, Carol shows up at the door. Fred takes her outside and tries to convince her that they should go out, but Lamont announces that dinner is ready. Carol, assuming that Lamont cooked, says that they should not disappoint him.
Donna is none too pleased to see Carol, and makes a comment about there not being enough food for seconds. They all sit down to eat, and Fred tries to control the conversation so that neither woman knows what really is going on. Lamont grins at his father's discomfort. Eventually, Donna shows Carol her engagement ring. The women exchange insults. Donna demands to know what was going on when Carol was at the house earlier. Carol demands to know why Fred didn't tell her she was engaged. Donna walks out and tells Carol she can have Fred. Carol tells Donna she doesn't want a two-timer, and she follows Donna out.
The next day, Lamont hears Fred apologizing to Donna over the phone. Fred tells her he was wrong, and it will never happen again. He makes another dinner date with her. Lamont tells his father that he's lucky that Donna decided to take him back. A moment later, Fred calls Carol to apologize and makes a date with her. Lamont shakes his head.
