"Funny, You Don't Look It" finds 'Emperor' Fred G. Sanford determined to prove to his son that he's more than the ruler of an empire of junk. The recent broadcast of Alex Haley's ROOTS inspires him to search into his family background by sending in a $25 application. The box arrives with the Sanford family crest from Ethiopia, indicating that he's not only a king but also Jewish! He's yet again ready to join Elizabeth: "I'll be the one with the chicken soup and mozza balls!" If he refuses his Jewish faith, he'd also deny being a king. Imploring Bubba to treat him accordingly, Fred is willing to grant him 'Sultan of Central Avenue!' Shop keeper Sam Gittleman (Milton Selzer) finds it difficult to believe that this black man is also Jewish: "you haven't got enough trouble?" Fred learns about Judaism in the synagogue and is able to accept the truth about the ripoff company that charges $25 apiece: "it was great being king for a day!"
