Howard T. Platt makes his final appearance as Officer Hoppy
kevinolzak19 November 2016
"The Stakeout" opens with Fred welcoming a new tenant to the Sanford Arms, a woman calling herself Miss Wallace (Charles Weldon), who charms her landlord enough for him to kiss her hand. Once the door is closed, she pulls off her wig to reveal professional crook Alex Hacker, who has been under observation for several days by Sergeant Perkins (Rozelle Gayle). Fred is shocked to discover that his potential lady is no lady at all, and only offers to aid the authorities for the generous reward of $1000. He blows the case in swift fashion, allowing Bubba to claim the reward with his own impersonation (a purse with $1000 makes him more attractive than ever to Fred!). Charles Weldon went on to play WW1 soldier Doxey Walker in the sequel ROOTS: THE NEXT GENERATIONS. This would be the last of 20 appearances for Howard T. Platt as Officer Hoppy, seen here without partner Smitty.
