During Weekend Update, Dennis Miller has a speech about Mikhail Gorbachev and can be seen glancing to his left. He then announces a counterpoint to be given by someone else, but somebody can be heard whispering something to him and there is no one sitting next to him to offer a second opinion. As originally planned, Dana Carvey was to have debuted his impersonation of Dennis Miller at this point, but for some reason Carvey was under the impression his segment was cut. Miller ends the awkward moment by saying "I've always waited for this to happen. Three years, and a sketch blew up on live TV."
