Tom Davis wrote the sketch about the praying house wive (played by Sally Field) being visited by Jesus Christ (Phil Hartman). In his 2009 autobiography "39 Years of Short-Term Memory Loss", Davis recounts it was originally tried during a show hosted by Christian Slater, who really championed the sketch, but that following dress rehearsal, Victoria Jackson said she couldn't play the housewife because of her religious beliefs. Davis claims he submitted the sketch to Sally Field the following week, however, in actuality, more than a month had past between this show and Christian Slater/Smashing Pumpkins (1993), and Victoria Jackson had left the show two years earlier. Photographic evidence shows that Slater did perform the sketch with Julia Sweeney in the earlier show from season 19, and it might have been Sweeney who objected to the role, or they could possibly have tried it out when he first hosted in season 17, when Jackson was still in the cast.
Photos taken during the Dress Rehearsal performance show that originally during Adam Sandler's Santa Song performance, Rob Schneider, Tim Meadows and Chris Farley were also on stage as back-up singers.
The background music heard during "I Want My Baby Back!: The Harriet Cralboni Story" is all taken from Jerry Goldsmith's score composed for Not Without My Daughter (1991).
