Like for example "The No Faced Zombie Chase", as far as other 'The Scooby Doo Show' go, part of me is still very fond of "Scooby Doo Where's the Crew". It was one of my first 'The Scooby Doo Show' episodes and one of my most watched of the show's episodes when younger. Always enjoyed the mystery, the nice little moments and the creepiness of the villains, though the final solution was guessable early on with suspects being too few.
While it is not quite a favourite anymore, "Scooby Doo Where's the Crew" is a very good episode on the whole. Compared to the other episodes of Season 1, which was pretty good overall though the very good first half of it was better than the more inconsistent second, while not one of the best overall it fares favourably and is one of the better ones of the second half of the season. Everything that made me love "Scooby Doo Where's the Crew" when younger are still on the most part strengths. A couple of things even work better, although the things that were not noticeable to me at all as a child are not as easy to overlook now. Luckily though for me issues were very few.
Have already said about the final solution being blatantly obvious from the start, so that did dilute the suspense a bit, but am not going to consider that a massive issue (especially when other 'The Scooby Doo Show' episodes fared far worse in this regard).
It does occasionally lag at times and actually think the episode would have worked even better with just one villain. Pescado was the only one of the three to make a major impression, meanwhile the octopus monster was pretty useless and looked ridiculous.
On the other hand, Pescado is a lot of fun as a head villain and has an air of creepiness too, the eerie character design and John Stephenson's typically booming voice acting helps quite a bit. The mystery has lots of intrigue and entertainment value, regardless of surprises being few, while the professor's clue does keep one guessing all the way to the end. Some nice character moments too, especially the SOS attempt and Shaggy's final line. It was great to see Shaggy, Scooby and Velma working together, one doesn't always see that in Scooby Doo.
Excepting the Octopus monster, the animation is lively and in keeping with the episode's tone and setting. The underwater scenes are especially well done, nice background detail. The music is true in tone to the original Scooby Doo while having some of its own flavour so that it wasn't too rooted in the past. The theme song is very catchy and always cheers me up. The script is entertaining and endearing. The gang don't disappoint and Professor Poisson is likeable in his relatively short screen time. The voice acting is solid, Casey Kasem and Don Messick are still definitive as Shaggy and Scooby.
