SEAWEST is a western-themed episode of the show that feels very much like a reworking of OUTLAND with similar characters and setting. It's mainly worthwhile thanks to the presence of two actors who work very hard throughout. The underrated David Morse is a consistently engaging presence in cinema and it's nice to see him not typecast as the villain here. David McCallum, although sporting a dodgy Aussie accent, is fun as the bad guy of the hour too.

straightforward action drama

The first thing which i noticed, and liked, about this episode was the effects. overall i thought they were very nicely done, and convincingly conveyed the impression of an underwater world. the sharks, which i assume were computer generated, looked fairly real. there was a realistic looking underwater base or dock which cropped up a few times, this building looked like real, usable hardware. there is trouble stirring at a mining operation, it turns out that familiar genre stalwart david mccallum is at the centre of it. i remember this actor well and it was a pleasure to see him turning up in a surprise role. the rest of the story is straightforward but effective; so far, with my limited experience in seaquest dsv, this looks like being a straightforward action adventure series with an underwater setting used to add a bit of novelty.

Nothing to do with Seaquest

I have to admit, as stories go, this could have been worse. It has a good enough story line, but my only problem is, I don't think it makes a very good SeaQuest episode. When I watch a show, it's because I like the premise of the show. This one tends to stray far away from what the premise should be, in my opinion.
Everyone has their opinions, but when I show is this new in the first season, I really believe they should be laying down the groundwork for the show as most people still don't know what every character is capable of. This episode seems to be something that should come aroubd the third season of a regular show.
