It was very interesting to see roy schieder's captain being hauled over the coals by the senior navy personnel, clearly they did not believe that he was the man for the job of stopping a rogue submarine, he proves them right in a way by resigning, only they don't know what he has actually done. you may find yourself asking whether schieder was right as the submarine has killed many people including civilians; is schieder doing what he thinks is right or is he just running away? this aspect of the plot is tense and involving as you can't wait to see how far schieder will really go. i felt that the comedy plot involving the smuggling of fake meat was just cheap filler compared to the real moral dilemma, although it did make me smile a few times.

Warning: Spoilers
WHALE SONG is another ecologically-friendly episode of the show. Scheider has to investigate when a number of whaling ships are sunk; he's not opposed to the idea, but an old friend is involved which spurs him into action. I was pleased to see the underrated Jonathan Banks (who appear in UNDER SIEGE 2 as well as many other B-movies) appearing in a substantial role here.
