Finding Your First True Love!
g-bodyl22 August 2014
This is the twenty-fourth episode of the third season of the Simpsons and it is a really good one as it tackles the part of finding your first love during your pre-teen years. While it's romance, this doesn't get overly sappy so I'm happy for that. It's also funny thanks to the very great jokes including Homer becoming articulate.

In this episode, "Bart's Friend Falls in Love," a girl named Samantha moves into Bart's class and his best friend, Milhouse falls in love with her. Bart thinks that will end their friendship, so he tries to stop their relationship. Meanwhile, Homer wants to lose weight so he orders a program to help him, but instead he only broadens his vocabulary while still putting on the pounds.

Overall, this is a great episode exploring pre-teen love. However strong the romance plot was, I did think the subplot involving Homer was even funnier. It was nice to see what Homer would be like with even a slither of intelligence. I rate this episode 9/10.

A Better Vocabulary
Hitchcoc24 April 2022
Milhouse falls for the new girl and Bart is left out, so he takes action. More interesting than this is Lisa playing a tape while Homer sleeps. It supposedly will help him overcome his appetite. Unfortunately, the company sends him a vocabulary builder, with hilarious results.

The best Simpsons opening scene

Millhouse falls in love.

This is a solid episode with strong moments of humour.

It starts incredibly well with the brilliant 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' tribute, followed by the great scenes involving the 8-ball and sex education video. Miss Krabapple and Principal Skinner both have good material.

The story unfolds well, with good character exchanges between Bart and Millhouse. For me, some of the humour is a little bit stretched to the point of feeling slightly repetitive, but it ends very strongly.

Bart's Friend Falls in Love

Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure what the title is a reference to, because surely it is otherwise why not call it "Milhouse Falls in Love", perhaps they were unsure as to whether or not the audience would know who Milhouse was, doesn't make sense to be, never mind though.

The episode itself was very interesting not the best of the classic era but really good nonetheless. I'd recommend, though every Simpsons fan has probably already seen it.

Millhouse, Bart and Samantha Too

Warning: Spoilers
Here in Bart's Friend Falls in Love we have a definite love triangle, with Bart falling for Samantha Stanky (voiced by Kimmy Robertson, who starred in The Last American Virgin directed by Boaz Davidson) and it happens Samantha also likes Milhouse (voiced by Pamela Hayden). Bart thinks something stinks because Samantha is spending less time with him, and Bart wants vengeance, even if it costs his friendship with Milhouse. I think many can relate to the childhood romances gone wrong, and the emotions unleashed by Bart, and really that's why The Simpsons is so relatable from one generation to the next init.

Funny for me. I was born 11 days after this episode. I'm 19 may 1992. How fast life goes.

Some may prefer adore this episode in terms of typical childhood romance story.

Big question over who cares if Bart's Poindexter friend Milhouse has a girlfriend? Bart should have other friends, even if it's annoying Martin. And of course there's episodes like Lisa and Ralph Wiggum, Bart and Laura Powers, Lisa and Nelson, etc.

There's always

Despite the memorable opening Indiana Jones / Raiders parody of Bart stealing Homer's coin jar.

Some big questions why the film's producers depict cartoon rabbits having sex (Fuzzy Bunny)? How many times Edna Krabappel watched it?

As for the subplot, Homer's fails to get a weight loss tape, after the "rich creamy butter" and "chocolate" (mouthwatering) gourmand metamorphism into the voluptuary.

This episode is a combination of being overly melodramatic with the romance and being overly random and absurd with its jokes.

There is some moments I like the Magic 8 ball callback when introduced start of episode and then Bart used on Milhouse after Bart confessed and they fight. And the cool shadow of Bart, laughing evilly, in the alleyway.
