When Homer is bemoaning the end of fantasy camp, Mick Jagger tries to placate him by saying "It's only rock n' roll camp", to which Homer replies "But I like it". This is a reference to the chorus of the Rolling Stones' hit "It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It)".

Going by production order, this is the last episode to use hand-painted cel animation.
The title is a reference to "How I Spent My Summer Vacation".
