Krusty is clearly seen reading a fax about the Russians dropping out of the Olympics , but in "Krusty Gets Busted" it is clearly stated that he can't read.
Since the flashback portion of this episode takes place prior to the events of "Krusty Gets Busted" (#1.12), Sideshow Bob is depicted as Krusty's TV sidekick. However, his hair is colored green (like his replacement Sideshow Mel's) rather than its normal reddish-brown color.
