Hank Scorpio was planned to return as the villain of The Simpsons Movie (2007), but the creators decided that he was too likable to turn into a full-blown villain. The movie's actual villain, Russ Cargill, is also voiced by Albert Brooks.
Fans and critics have often asked when the show will bring back Hank Scorpio, but the producers have said that Scorpio will probably never return because Albert Brooks ab-libbed nearly all of his lines and it would be a bad idea to try to capture lightning in a bottle with the character again.
This is the second time a joke is made about Bart mistaking cursive writing for profanity (the first is the blackboard gag on Bart's Comet (1995) that reads, "Cursive writing does not mean what I think it does.")
Homer is disappointed about owning the Denver Broncos. As a matter of coincidence, the Broncos were among the NFL's top teams the year this episode aired and won the first of two consecutive Super Bowl titles a year later.
There was originally a subplot involving Grampa Simpson, wherein he is left behind in Springfield and receives recorded greeting phone calls. The plot went on for four sequences, all of which were cut from the episode for time constraints but later included in the DVD release.
