Carmela Soprano : So Finn, Meadow's telling me your going skiing?
Finn Detrolio : For four days next week a whole bunch of us: a friend of my dad has a cabin near Montreal. You can ski right onto the trails
Meadow Soprano : I saw the pictures, there's this humongous stone fire place
Carmela Soprano : Just be careful with all the accidents you read about: Sonny Bono
Tony Soprano : How about you Alex? Do you ski?
Alessandra : I used to, my family had a retreat near the Pyrenees
Tony Soprano : Pyrenees?
Meadow Soprano : Aless is descended from Spanish royalty
Tony Soprano : Seriously?
Colin McDermott : She's our little princess
Alessandra : My great, great grandmother was a countess
Carmela Soprano : [to Meadow] you should've told me you were living with royalty
Tony Soprano : My daughter's an Italian princess, does that count? My wife too for that matter
Meadow Soprano : There's more chicken if anybody wants?
Tony Soprano : Yeah I'll take a little more
Finn Detrolio : [Including him into the conversation] so AJ, your a junior?
A.J. Soprano : Next year
Finn Detrolio : Are you looking at any schools yet?
A.J. Soprano : Not really, I'll go to Rutgers I guess
Meadow Soprano : Are you passing everything?
A.J. Soprano : I got a C on a paper I did on Billy Budd
Carmela Soprano : [Disappointed] A C?
Tony Soprano : [to Carmella] he usually gets D's and F's, what's with you today? You ok?
Carmela Soprano : You worked so hard on it, why only a C?
A.J. Soprano : I don't know
Finn Detrolio : Did you like Billy Budd?
A.J. Soprano : It was ok. My teacher said it's a gay book
Carmela Soprano : Mr. Wegler? Oh that is ridiculous
Finn Detrolio : [while Colin and Aless nod] I've heard that before
Carmela Soprano : That was written when? The nineteenth century?
A.J. Soprano : Yeah, I didn't even know they had fags back then
Meadow Soprano : [Chastising him for saying something offensive] AJ
Tony Soprano : [to Colin] no offense
Colin McDermott : Oh, I'm not gay
Tony Soprano : Your not?
Colin McDermott : No
Finn Detrolio : [Jokingly] I read where they found gay cave drawings in Africa
Alessandra : Really?
Alessandra : [Realizes he was teasing her] shut up
Carmela Soprano : This stuff is pervading our educational system, not to mention movies, TV shows
-
Tony Soprano : [while entering their apartment, jokingly] flower delivery
Meadow Soprano : hi, come on in, I'll be right there
Finn Detrolio : [introducing himself] Mr. Soprano, Finn Detrolio
Tony Soprano : Finn, the dentist, right?
Finn Detrolio : someday, I'm still waiting to hear from dental school
Tony Soprano : [jokingly, points to his teeth] remind me to talk to you about this loose filing later
Meadow Soprano : [while taking the flowers from her father] hi, these are beautiful
Tony Soprano : so, what smells so good in there?
Meadow Soprano : mom's recipe for Chicken Cacciatore
Tony Soprano : [to Carmela] see? I should've known
Carmela Soprano : [to Meadow] you always leave your door open like that?
Meadow Soprano : I'm cooking, it's hot
Finn Detrolio : [puts his arm around Meadow] I'll protect her, don't worry
Tony Soprano : [jokingly] you hear that? Anybody bothers her, he'll knock their teeth out, then he can put them back in too
Meadow Soprano : [introducing them to her father] these are my roommates: Colin and Alex
Tony Soprano : [to Colin] so, you're a roommate too?
Colin McDermott : [while shaking Tony's hand] Colin McDermott, I've heard so much about you
Tony Soprano : [referring to Colin, to Finn] so, he lives here and you don't?
Finn Detrolio : I have a place on 118th St.
-
Meadow Soprano : What stuff?
Carmela Soprano : This gay nonsense their teaching. I am sorry but Billy Budd is not a homosexual book
Meadow Soprano : Actually, it is mother
Carmela Soprano : I saw the movie Meadow with Terence Stamp
Colin McDermott : Terence Stamp was in the Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
Carmela Soprano : I don't know about that but Billy Budd is a story about an innocent sailor being picked on by an evil boss
Meadow Soprano : Who's picking on him out of self loathing caused by homosexual feelings in the military context
Carmela Soprano : Oh, please
A.J. Soprano : OK
Alessandra : Actually Mrs. Soprano, there's a passage in the book where Melville compares Billy to a statue of Adam before the fall
A.J. Soprano : Really?
Tony Soprano : I thought you read it?
-
Tony Soprano : so, Finn, where are you from?
Finn Detrolio : my dad was in the navy, I was born in Japan, I spent my first ten years on a base near the Azores
Tony Soprano : so, your dad was a sailor, huh?
Finn Detrolio : surgeon, actually
Carmela Soprano : so, you've been all over the world?
Finn Detrolio : yeah, pretty much
Colin McDermott : I gotta tell you Mrs. Soprano, your daughter absolutely keeps us alive with her cooking
Alessandra : [to Colin] didn't you make macaroni and cheese one night?
Colin McDermott : [jokingly] I didn't wanna brag
-
Tony Soprano : Furio come by?
Carmela Soprano : His already forty minutes late
Tony Soprano : [referring to his hangover] His probably worse off than me
Carmela Soprano : You two go out?
Tony Soprano : Can I get a cup of coffee? Where the fuck is he?
Carmela Soprano : Was he out with somebody last night?
Tony Soprano : He's a single guy: how should I know? Anyway, my memory's a little hazy
Tony Soprano : [after smelling the coffee] I'm going back to bed, when he gets here, don't wake me
-
Furio Giunta : [while entering the kitchen] what's the smell is in this house? It's like the smell of heaven
Carmela Soprano : Homemade scones, my son loves them. Here try one, they're just out of the oven
Furio Giunta : No, thank you
A.J. Soprano : Well, that's all there is for breakfast? Just fat and carbs?
Carmela Soprano : Excuse me, we have guest you think you might say hello?
A.J. Soprano : [ignores her, continues to read from his paper about the novel Billy Budd by Herman Melville to his mother] anyway, "when Mr. Claggart gets mad at Billy, it is a surprise because his always saying how handsome Billy is, this does not seem realistic because why would an officer care if a sailor was handsome or not?"
Carmela Soprano : [after Tony walks downs the stars and takes a bite from a scone] AJ, your father's living I'll come up in a minute, go over it
Carmela Soprano : [Reads from the envelop Tony hands her] what is this? Ocean Club at Paradise Island
Tony Soprano : We leave tomorrow for three beautiful days
Carmela Soprano : Tomorrow?
Tony Soprano : I know its short notice but the deal came through, got a view suite, first class plane tickets, a guy owes me a favor
Tony Soprano : [Seeing her worried] what?
Carmela Soprano : I don't know, AJ? School?
Tony Soprano : His old enough to spoil himself now. I saw how jealous you were when I left for Florida
Carmela Soprano : [Giving him reasons why it's not a practical time for them to go on a vacation] my mother with the skin condition, just the time it's going to take to pack
Tony Soprano : To pack?
Furio Giunta : [Sensing they want to talk privately] I'll wait outside
Tony Soprano : All the shit's that's been going on, the horse and all. I know you need a break: deep down it's probably why you got your hair cut
-
Carmela Soprano : [referring to Furio] His mother was coming: he was so excited, we had a "date" to go to Color Tile
Rosalie Aprile : [confused] "Date?"
Carmela Soprano : To look at tiles for his mother's apartment, no phone call? No note? I know I sound foolish
Rosalie Aprile : No, you don't, honey
Carmela Soprano : When I ran into Darlene at church, it felt like somebody punched me in the stomach, I almost threw up the sacrament. What am I gonna do?
Rosalie Aprile : What's there to do? A couple of months, you'll forget all about him
Carmela Soprano : I don't know if I can
Rosalie Aprile : You don't think Tony said "something" to him, do you?
-
Carmela Soprano : [after he enters their bedroom] Your home early
Tony Soprano : Yeah, what're you watching?
Carmela Soprano : How to Marry a Millionaire, do I have a fever?
Tony Soprano : [feels her forehead] Maybe, a little, want some Advil?
Carmela Soprano : I took some
Tony Soprano : I talked to Meadow this morning: she left for her ski trip
Carmela Soprano : So?
Tony Soprano : She's a good kid
Carmela Soprano : She hates my guts
Tony Soprano : She doesn't hate you. She's gonna call you. Come on, you know that works. Finn will go, she'll forget all about him in a couple of weeks. In a few years, she'll find somebody else, settle down, maybe she won't, who knows? She can do whatever she wants, she's becoming a wonderful woman, smart, beautiful, independent woman you created. Isn't that what you dreamed about?
-
Meadow Soprano : [over the phone] Hey, it's me, what're you doing?
Carmela Soprano : nothing, reading, you alright?
Meadow Soprano : Yeah, I just wanted to talk to you. Did I do something to piss you off?
Carmela Soprano : What're you talking about?
Meadow Soprano : I know you were kind of mad at me the other night
Carmela Soprano : Why would I be mad?
Meadow Soprano : I don't know. Anyway, the reason I called it's kind of near my birthday and I was thinking we'd do our tradition? Go to The Plaza for tea, under Eloise's picture?
Carmela Soprano : Really? That's wonderful
Meadow Soprano : Are you crying?
Carmela Soprano : I'm just happy, that's so thoughtful
Meadow Soprano : [referring to her skiing trip with Finn] I was thinking tomorrow. It's the only day I have left before I go to Canada
Carmela Soprano : Well, I have my nails in the morning but I can drive in and meet you after that?
Meadow Soprano : Actually, I'm gonna be in the West side, maybe you can pick me up?
Carmela Soprano : Sure, I'll take the George Washington Bridge
Meadow Soprano : why would you take the bridge if you're coming to Midtown?
Carmela Soprano : I know how to get to the city
Meadow Soprano : Alright, how's one o'clock?
Carmela Soprano : That's fine
-
Carmela Soprano : [after taking the gloves out of her purse during their annual mother and daughter luncheon] I brought these
Meadow Soprano : Sorry, I am not wearing the gloves: Soprano family tradition not withstanding
Carmela Soprano : I didn't think so but I am wearing mine
Meadow Soprano : Where'd you park?
Carmela Soprano : There's a lot over on 57th St., is that ok, or would you like to lecture me on parking too?
Meadow Soprano : [confused] What're you talking about?
Carmela Soprano : [referring to their previous phone conversation] where well, since your such an authority on driving directions
Meadow Soprano : Very funny
Carmela Soprano : Not to mention literature
Meadow Soprano : So, it's the Billy Budd "thing." I was merely pointing out what critics have said about the book
Carmela Soprano : [changing the subject, referring to their vacation together] So, how is Finn, when are you leaving for Montreal?
Meadow Soprano : Wednesday morning, his gonna pick me up at home, I have my ski clothes there, so, I'm gonna stay over the night before and do some laundry
Meadow Soprano : [when she doesn't respond] Is that a problem?
Carmela Soprano : No, of course not, as long as he stays in the guest room
Meadow Soprano : His not "staying"
Carmela Soprano : Well, the way you two "hang" on each other
Meadow Soprano : [sarcastically] Well, excuse me Mrs. "Dampers", what do you have against love?
Carmela Soprano : Nothing
Meadow Soprano : Why are you not happy for me?
Meadow Soprano : [after Carmela clears her throat] What're you jealous? Just because you and dad are middle aged?
Carmela Soprano : [sternly] Watch it young lady
Meadow Soprano : [amused] What am I? A child?
Carmela Soprano : [referring to Meadow not paying for her living expenses] Actually, yes, your apartment in Manhattan not withstanding
Meadow Soprano : What?
Carmela Soprano : [sarcastically, referring to her roommate Alex] And I'm sure your "friend" the princess found us quite amusing
Meadow Soprano : You're the one who wanted me to go to an ivy league school: these are the types of people who go there and there are also people who grew up without indoor plumbing but you would know even less about them. Would you like me to transfer to Montclair State? Then maybe I can drop out like you did?
Carmela Soprano : I'm sorry
Meadow Soprano : I invited you here to have a nice time: not to belittled, maybe you wouldn't want me coming around here anymore?
Carmela Soprano : Except that wouldn't happen because you'll need money in about a week
Meadow Soprano : You know what? The hell with not "coming around", I'll just transfer to Northwestern, so I can be near Finn when he goes
