Deus ex Machina: A plot device where a seemingly unsolvable problem in a story is suddenly resolved by an unexpected occurrence.
In the case of the first series of Special Branch. When Moxin comes in at the end and sorted it out all with his behind the scenes machinations. The final episode is no different.
An arab sheik of a country similar to Dubai is in London to attend an enquiry of an accident in a ship that killed his eldest son. The sheik wants the ship's captain to pay a price. A valuable oil contract depends on it.
Inman who has knowledge of Arabic suspects a bomb was placed on the ship. He also suspects the sheikh's younger son Omar who is a bit of a playboy but he also has knowledge of explosives. Jordan needs to stick with Omar and befriend him but Inman also has other irons in the fire.
Directed by Voytek. His episodes of Special Branch so far had more political nuances than action. Maybe reflecting the director's own heritage and experiences. The sheik might be pro British, but is Omar a pan Arab nationalist or he just wants a clear road to be sheik himself.
Inman does make a comment that one day he plans to get one over Moxon. Inman shows Jordan that he is an old dog with a few new tricks up his sleeve. He made plans to get the goods on Omar.
As always Moxon's the one really ahead of the game. Get the oil contract and then deal with Omar.
