The First Lady of the United States is in Boston, and St. Eligius is delegated as the go-to hospital should a medical crisis occur. When a stabbing victim arrives at the hospital, Dr. Westphall faces a crisis of conscience: risk his career and use the blood supply reserved for the First Lady's visit or ignore his Hippocratic oath and let an ordinary citizen die? At the heart of the crisis: Dr. Westphall's old friend, Capt. Gloria Neal (played by Betty White), who is also the First Lady's aide. By-the-book and humorless, Neal roars in and makes inflexible demands regarding the hospital's protocol being switched to prioritize the First Lady, especially the blood supply. If Dr. Westphall deviates from protocol, his longtime friend can end up being his ruination.
