Several of the character names in the episode (Jerry Schilling, Robert West, Myrna Schilling, Vernon Presley) are named after members of the Memphis Mafia, the nickname for Elvis Presley's inner circle. Episode writer Rick Husky was yet another member of Elvis' s crew and would frequently use his friends' names in his scripts.
Writer Rick Husky later remade this episode, with slight tweaking, as the T.J. Hooker episode The Assassin.
