This episode of "Studio One" is set in Germany just after WWII. The place is in ruins, people are hungry and Communists are clamoring to fill the power void now that the Nazis are gone. In the midst of this, two people are in love but must battle these forces to make a go of it.
This teleplay has a pretty good cast--Patric Knowles and a young Anne Bancroft. Like the rest of the teleplays from "Studio One" and many other similar series from this era, this originally was aired LIVE! Fortunately, they made Kinescope copies so the show could be rebroadcast on the West Coast (due to the difference in time zones). However, those familiar with Kinescopes know that this process results in a washed out and somewhat blurry print.
Overall, this is not a particularly good episode of the series--I have seen better from "Studio One". The story of anti-communism was very timely considering the Red Scare was going strong and this SHOULD have been very interesting. While it's not a bad show, it never really stood out (mostly because the writing was a bit broad)--though it is interesting in that it is so strongly anti-communist--something you certainly won't see today from Hollywood. A mildly interesting curio and that's about all.
