The most cold-blooded killer in the entire run of "The Texan".

Outlaw Clay Kirby (actor James Best) is out to top Billy the Kid, Jesse James, and Cole Younger as the most famous killer in the West. He has come to rescue his father, Asa Kirby (actor Robert J. Wilke), a convicted murderer who is being transported to prison by Bill Longley. Will The Texan deliver his prisoner? Or will the father and son duo turn the tables on Longley? Great suspense in a particularly violent story.

James Best at his best!

This is one of my favorite episodes of the two season series, mostly due to the scene stealing antics of the James Best character, Clay Kirby.

Mr. Best is always turning up in my favorite western tv series; e.g., Have Gun Will Travel, Bat Masterson, Trackdown, etc. But I rarely find his roles particularly memorable. This time, however, in Killer's Road, he really seems to be having fun chewing up the scenery. It's a must watch for James Best fans. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention the great work by the always strong character actor, Robert J. Wilke, in this episode. In addition to the grit that one always expects from him, he brings some pathos, as well.
