"Take Elmyra Please" is one of the more unique episodes of 'Tiny Toon Adventures'. Very like "Elephant Issues". That episode stood out for it being controversial for the content of one of the segments. "Take Elmyra Please" stands out due to it being centered around Elmyra and learning more about her. It has very few other regular characters, other than Furrball, and also has a stranger tone to usual and not always in the best of ways.
Apparently "Take Elmyra Please" was intended as a pilot for a spin-off centered around Elmyra and her family, one that never materialised. Which accounts for why the tone is very different and doesn't feel like a 'Tiny Toon Adventures' episode, which sounds like a disaster but actually it wasn't. It is decent as a standalone, has a lot to like and does entertain, but this is one of the episodes to judge as a standalone and not as an episode of 'Tiny Toon Adventures'.
Quite a lot works here in "Take Elmyra Please". The animation is very vibrant, richly detailed and with smooth and sometimes bold (namely the expressions) drawing. The music is hip and infectiously character and the theme song will never stop being a classic, has yet to get old. Enough of the dialogue is fun and witty and the story has enough energy and entertainment value.
It was great to get to know Elmyra more, some of the second half of Season 2 did well in this aspect, and learn about her family. Elmyra isn't too over-sweet and any obnoxiousness she has later on when deliberately making it difficult for George and Leonard in diva fashion actually didn't grate. George and Leonard are amusingly bumbling and their annoyance is oddly relatable. Arthur Jabba is a very predictable villain but good fun and a good send up of over-ruthless businessmen. The voice acting is spot on.
Having said that, "Take Elmyra Please" is very predictable with a kind of plot that has been seen elsewhere many times. The writing could have been sharper and wackier, 'Tiny Toon Adventures' is a very wacky and wild show and the wildness was only there here when Elmyra was making it difficult for George and Leonard.
Furrball has never been one of my favourite characters on the show, and while cute "Take Elmyra Please" doesn't do a lot to change my mind. He could have been not been in the episode and nobody would notice.
Overall, strange but quite fun. Just somewhat disappointing for a final episode (not feeling like one) to Season 2, which started inconsistent but got brilliant towards the end. 6/10.
