First, the disappointments: I don't like how they wrote off A.J. Cook's character, Tru's best friend Lindsay. After the departure of Jessica Collins (Tru's sister) and Matthew Bomer (Tru's boyfriend - OK, at least that was done for dramatic purposes), Lindsay's absence means that Tru will have little to no personal life anymore. Plus, A.J. Cook was attractive and had an easygoing chemistry with Eliza Dushku. Now, the strengths: Jason Priestley continues to impress with his masterful portrayal of the suave, friendly, manipulative and remorseless Jack Harper. The Life vs. Death teams become clear in this episode: Tru, Davis and Harrison vs. Jack and Tru's father. But what I liked more than anything else in "The Perfect Storm" is Carly Pope: she plays a character so charming, so sweet, so brave, so willing to put her own life in danger to help others, that it makes Jack's intentions to "preserve fate" seem more evil than ever before. There is one scene where you think he might be having second thoughts about allowing her to die, but no, he goes forward with his plan, leading to a well-shot "stormy" climax. *** out of 4.

Perfect storm meets Back to the future.

Tru Calling has settled into a much better routine. There are no broken hearts or unrequited love stories. Just two people out to better each other. In the blue corner, Tru Davis representing life. In the red corner, Jack Harper representing ... we are not sure yet. All we know is he has to stop Tru from saving people or the natural order of things will be damaged.
Officer Kate Wilson, who is far too attractive to be a police woman, is pulled from the water dead after trying to save someone. A "White Squall" (whatever that is) washes her overboard and she dies before her partner can reach her.
On the rewind Jack starts a romance with the ill feted victim to prevent Tru from reaching her. Meanwhile Davis faces a psychological test, which he thinks he flunks when Dr. Carrie Allen turns up as the the new person at work. Harrison also has his hands full when his new boss turns out to be a crook forcing him to accept a job from his father who is opening a new office in town.
This is a reasonably good episode of Tru Calling with the combatants squaring off against each other. My only question is "Whatever happened to the older sister?" She appears to have been written out of the script.
