When the two escaped German POWs attempt to blow up the base's bomb dump, they place a homemade explosive device in front of two bombs, but out in the open. When Colonel Gallagher discovers it later, the explosive device has been pushed back out of sight so that he has to reach deep between two bombs to find it.
When Sandy surprises the German prisoners in the Chapel, one of them shoots him in the left shoulder. When Col Gallagher finds him his wound is on his right shoulder.
The Germans are shown attacking an American air base in England. This never happened. The Germans had most of their fighter forces and nearly all of their bomber forces on the Russian front and never had enough forces to try attack allied bases in England, especially after the allies had gained air superiority, particularly during daylight hours, over most of western Europe.
The German bomber group included Stuka (Junkers Ju 87) dive bombers in their raid on the base. Stukas had been withdrawn from bombing missions in western Europe after the Battle of Britain in 1940 due to heavy losses.
The Germans are shown flying a daylight bombing mission over England. Even before the Battle of Britain was over by the early fall of 1940, the Germans had switched over to nighttime bombing due to heavy losses suffered during daylight bombing missions.
The Chaplain grabs a rifle and shots and kills a German who had bailed out of a German bomber. The Chaplain wants out of the Ministry and asks Col. Gallagher if he is going to court martial him. For not wanting to do his chaplain duties, he would not be immediately held for a court martial, but for shooting at the German aircrew member, he would have been immediately arrested and held for court martial for violating the Geneva Conventions. If need be, a local member of the clergy could have come in to conduct services for the base personnel killed in the bombing raid.
