Col. Gallagher is supposed to be on the continent looking over advanced bases. The 8th Air Force NEVER ran operations out of advanced bases based on the continent of Europe. Battle damaged bomber did make use of advanced bases only for emergency landings.
Major Stovall was never grounded in Season 2 due to poor eyesight. In Season 2's Storm at Twilight (1965), there are questions about his eyesight and he nearly grounds himself, but eventually returns to combat as Colonel Gallagher's co-pilot and brings the aircraft home when Gallagher is wounded, after which Gallagher tells Stovall, "Harvey, when this is all over, you can fly me home!"
(at around 45 mins) The German Army is advancing into the village. A German soldier throws a hand grenade that lands at the far corner of the building but the resulting explosion occurs about 20 feet closer and behind a 6 foot high stone wall.
German anti-aircraft guns are shown firing at high angles of elevation against American tanks coming in to support the American troops with Col. Gallagher. While the German 88 anti-aircraft gun was a formidable weapon against allied armor at LOW angles of elevation, they would have been totally useless at the higher angles shown.
Radio discipline in the form of not using call signs and calling each other by their last names was sorely lacking in this episode and in real life would not have been done or tolerated.
Tactical aircraft (fighter bomber) units already on the continent and supporting allied troops would have been able to more quickly come to the aid of the troops around Col. Gallagher.
