A world of their own
kapelusznik182 October 2015
****MAJOR SPOILERS**** Stuck in traffic and late for an important meeting with a client, a basketball star, sports agent Scott Turner, Rob Estes, while going into the nearby woods to answer the call of nature soon finds himself lost from civilization and all the problems that go along with it. Scouting out the woods Scott finds this mansion on top of a hill with no modern convincers like running water & electricity but a woman real estate agent Marisa Sanborn, Elizabeth, Blakley, who's as much lost and confused as he is.

Trying to make heads or tails out of the situation that they find themselves in up pops Rikki, Nicki Aycox, who besides having some idea of what's going on also has a working cell-phone which Scott & Marisa don't. In fact as it soon turns out that the hippie like Rikki knows a lot more then what's she's telling them in her trying to keep both Scott & Marisa from freaking out in what their really into and up against.

It soon becomes obvious that Rikki is there to guide the two along on their journey into never-never land but both Scott & Marisa instead of taking a hint want to get a hold of her cell-phone and call home or their clients that turns out to be disastrous for both of them. With Rikki letting therm call home they break the spell and in the end were back from where they came from in the rat race of civilization that they, for a few moments, were free of!

This "New Twilight Zone" episode shows that when offered a good deal don't turn it down which is what both Scott, who made the phone call, and Marisa in fact did. Having a chance to live in complete freedom and away from it all they in fact chose to go back, without realizing it, to the world that they were so eager to get away from and in the end lost out on what would have been heaven for both of them.

Not Very Successful Journey/Original Sin

Warning: Spoilers
Good old basic Twilight Zone fodder. People find themselves in a house in paradise. All they need to do is accept it. He is handsome; she is beautiful. They are both part of the rat race and are happy for a time. Then another woman shows up and jealousy and longing ruin everything. This is a retelling of Genesis with the second girl all full of poison and snakes. Soon they find themselves back to their old lives as if nothing ever happened.

"This place shouldn't be here."

Warning: Spoilers
The original Twilight Zone series hosted by Rod Serling had an 'Adam and Eve' type story titled 'Two' that kicked off the third season of that show. This one is done in a somewhat similar vein, as professional sports agent Scott Turner (Rob Estes) and real estate rep Marisa Sanborn (Elizabeth Berkley) find themselves lost in a seemingly endless wooded area and discover a huge estate that appears to be nothing short of paradise. I found it odd that they only made a mediocre attempt to find a way back to their respective lives, but the temptation to sample the fruits of this new reality was apparently too strong. Stumbling into this comfortable situation, it looks like another lost woman might disrupt the near perfect life Scott and Marisa have settled into, since all of their basic needs seemed to be satisfied without the stress of the high-powered jobs they escaped from. But as they say, the devil is in the details, and the stand-in for Lucifer in this story happened to be Ricki (Nicki Aycox) with her cell phone, the only one that worked in this sequestered area. Akin to 'biting the apple', Scott Turner brought an end to the idealistic existence he and Marisa were offered when he used Ricki's phone to contact his recently signed talent. The scheming temptress did her job all too well.

Meh....

I undestood the plot of "Sanctuary" but also thought it was very weak and not particularly interesting. I noticed other reviewers liked it a bit more than I did but still, their enjoyment of the episode wasn't great. All in all, it's one that is pretty skippable.

The story finds two Type-A people suddenly in a quiet mansion, cut off from the outside world. However, because their lives have been so chaotic and power-driven, the pair soon learn to let go and love each other's company...A LOT! However, when another stanger arrives, it's obvious she's sort of like the serpent in the Garden of Eden and she's willing to return them to their previous lives.

Dull and uninteresting...with episodes like this, you can see why this reboot only lasted a season. Not terrible...but also not good and pretty obvious in its message.
