Between a rock and a hard place....
planktonrules20 March 2016
Smiley Barris (Frank Sutton) is wanted by the authorities...therefore he's a liability to Joe Kulak as he's worried that he might spill his guts. Barris swears he won't...but the mob isn't about to take any chances and even make an attempt on his life in jail. When his old friend Johnny Templar (Harry Guardino) helps him make bail, he immediately heads to California to be with him. However, Templar is in a tough spot, as the folks who put a contract out on Smiley know that he's been to Johnny's gambling boat. They give Johnny a choice...kill his friend or they'll kill not only Smiley but him and his fiancée (Gloria Talbott). His fiancée is horrified, as Johnny promised he was going straight...but can anyone just quit the mobs and go straight?!

This was a pretty good episode. Two things that made it so was the very vicious hit-man as well as the tough as nails ending. Well worth seeing.

A contract is a contract

Chroniclers and followers of gangland lore might recognize elements of some of the Ben Siegel story in this Untouchable episode. It worked out a lot different for Siegel than it did for Harry Guardino playing a Siegel like character.

Robert Stack and his Untouchables are in Los Angeles now and the bosses back east namely Oscar Beregi have put out a contract on Frank Sutton who has agreed to be an informer. In real life Siegel got a contract on Harry Greenberg who was an old friend as Sutton is to Guardino. To enforce things Beregi sends out contract killer John Larkin.

There's too much between Guardino and Sutton who is a real nebbish of a man especially one who was involved in organized crime.

Guest stars Guardino, Sutton, Larkin, Beregi and Nita Talbot playing a Virginia Hill type dominate this episode.
