- Arthur Carlson: Did I hear you reading poetry on the air?
- Venus Flytrap: Yes sir, I was.
- Arthur Carlson: Ah. Who was it?
- Venus Flytrap: Shakespeare.
- Arthur Carlson: Ah, he's good.
- Venus Flytrap: Yes.
- Arthur Carlson: Oh well, you know...
- Venus Flytrap: Hey, wait a minute. If you heard that, you've been listening to the station.
- Arthur Carlson: Oh, yeah.
- Venus Flytrap: [shaking Mr. Carlson's hand] Oh, that's great. I mean that's real good. It's amazing.
- Arthur Carlson: Well, you know, I can't do it for a long period of time. I, I, I'm getting better. In fact, I, uh, listened to Johnny the other morning for a couple of minutes.
- Venus Flytrap: See, I knew you could do it. Pretty soon, you'll be ready for Les.
- Arthur Carlson: Oh gosh, I don't know if I could sit through anything like that.
- Candy Striper: Are you sick?
- Andy Travis: No. Just visiting.
- Candy Striper: Oh, I didn't think you were sick. You look really healthy to me.
- Andy Travis: Thank you very much. So do you. You a nurse?
- Candy Striper: Oh no, I'm just a volunteer. I wanted to be a nurse, but not anymore. They don't pay nurses anything, and most of the doctors are real rude to the nurses around here because they have a Christ complex... the doctors, I mean. So that's why I've decided to go out to Hollywood and do a Playboy spread. Because I really like making other people happy.
- Dr. Johnny Fever: [talking about the afterlife as he turns on the oxygen] A lot of cultures, they talk about barges, or the big river. They all have guides, you know, to sort of show you the way... like Sacagawea.
- Peggy Sue: I think it sounds like it'll be very nice.
- Dr. Johnny Fever: [putting on the oxygen mask] Nice? You kiddin', Peggy Sue? We're talkin' about *the* terminal blow out. It'll be the perpetual party to end all parties. Boy, just think about the band: they'll be Janis, Jimi, Elvis, Otis, Charlie Parker, Fats Waller, Billie Holliday, Albert Schweitzer - he'll order a mean cocktail, you know - Bach, Mozart, Pablo Casals... *all* the cats'll be there. Everybody's gonna be in this jam session. Maybe be Picasso, Disney, maybe doing charcoal sketches of everybody... LBJ, crankin' out ribs on the barbecue pit. I'm gonna talk to Plato, see if he's come up with anything new upon reflection. I'll chat with Jimmy Hoffa, see where he's been, what he's been doing.
- Venus Flytrap: [about finding someone to drive Mr. Carlson to the hospital] I'll see if Travis is still here. I'll call him on the intercom.
- Arthur Carlson: k.
- Venus Flytrap: [opens the door to the control booth and yells down the hall] Travis!
