Confused, but still good.

As a story it's confusing shall we say, I've watched it a few times over the years, and never fully understood it, I've watched patiently with no interruptions, and it seems more cohesive, I think it's the next episode that's more convoluted. It is deep, it's intriguing, and the acting is terrific. The scenes between Grace and Maria were very good.

I have never understood why Craig Kelly hasn't been more prolific as an actor, excellent as Mark/Maria, he is very good.

Boyd is slightly calmer here than he was in Multistorey. He is hard work though.

So I have seen no trigger warnings for this episode and just wanted to get this out there, as I found it very frustrating, and others might fing this episode triggering (and while it is very old, it might still be needed). Disclosure, I am cis, so this is not analysing, just TWs. TRIGGER WARNING: transphobia (deadnaming, use of wrong pronouns, etc)

Seriously dated

The episode is unfortunately marred by a seriously dated and retrograde understanding of trans issues. Reflecting the time, trans identity is referred to as a disorder frequently, among other jarring moments including dead naming. Furthers a narrative that trans people are merely troubled and crazy. Many will find this episode a little offensive and jarring.

Not a good one

A convoluted episode with plot holes, loose ends and some very silly, unbelievable scenes. And of course a seemingly dysfunctional department with an arrogant Chief Superintendent. His character and personality do get tiresome. Just not very good IMO.
