- Hannah: There's a job for you too, if you want it.
- Josh Randall: Y'know, tomorrow afternoon about this time I'm gonna think of a good reason why I didn't stay. But right now, I better be goin'. I'll see ya now, hear?
- Indian Boy: [Hugging Josh and crying, the boy describes the monster] Big! Terrible big!
- Josh Randall: What?
- Indian Boy: The size of a thousand horses!
- Josh Randall: Now, what're you talkin' about?
- Indian Boy: It screams, it kills, it trampled our village! My people run, but it chases like the wind! Squeezes, kills!
- Josh Randall: You say it usually attacks at night, huh?
- Sheriff: Yeah, as far as we can tell.
- Josh Randall: Any idea of what causes it?
- Sheriff: Well, everybody has their own personal ideas. Ghosts, monsters, devil-gods. No one will even walk the streets anymore. I'd go gunnin'for him, but I don't know what to look for.
- Josh Randall: I've never much believed in ghosts.
- Sheriff: Lots of things in this world no man can understand.
- Josh Randall: Well, maybe that's because nobody's took the time to find out.
