Far Fetched

First of all. It takes place in Cornwall. It's a series. It's not a documentary. Of course, Cornwall is like the setting of any number of crime series. So, forget about the fact that they have crimes there. This one, where a bunch of neo-druids role a wheel of vines down a hill for good luck. A man is inside it this time and that's what brings the focus. Soon a soap opera develops.

The Scapegoat

It starts off a little bit like The Wicker Man or is it The Burning Man.

A druid festival. An effigy of a man inside a burning wheel is sent down the cliffs and into the sea.

Jonathan Riddle the local undertaker has gone missing. His body washes up near the rocks.

Wycliffe is sure that this was no suicide. One person claimed that they saw a human inside the burning wheel. The man who constructed the wheel is adamant that there was only an effigy inside.

However several people disliked Riddle. His own son was stealing from the family business. There was also a suspicion that Riddle might have been having an affair.

Wycliffe is dubious when another dead body emerges and a suggestion that this person killed Riddle.

Unfortunately some of the the locals were stock characters straight out of Straw Dogs. The Sam Peckinpah version that is.

At least the scenery was nice but I was not sure about the mystery. It was a little bit too convoluted and overstrained. The finale was better than the previous episode.

2 more murders in cornwall

I think the writers for this series are daft because they can't find crime in cornwall, they have to make up murders each week to give the chief supt something to do ... and he hammers out another mystery by trying the shoe on everyone to see if he can make it fit ... i'm sure the people of cornwall will be happy to find out that infidelity is rampant as uncovered by the staff of detectives...
